So our world has been kinda crazy lately. Our car broke this last week. I was driving down the autobahn and it started to lose power. It appears that the alternator has gone out again. We managed to get it towed after a rather hilarious stint of experiences with a crazy Polish man. And the car is now at the German auto mechanics to get it checked out. I will never take my car to AAFES again to get it checked out or worked on.

We also got our phone bill....it is outrageous this month. Not because we called the states a lot. Because the guys went to Wiesbaden and we called them both every day. And they only had cell phones...so there was much time spent on the phone and each minute is very expensive. But we didn't realize it until we got the bill in.

My brother is here to visit and we're having a good visit. We're talking about going to where we lived as kids to see what it's like. We haven't been there in years and just kinda wanted to have some re-living. We went out to the club last night. We drank some and danced some. Pretty much just had a good time all around.

I remember when the bases used to have auto hobby shops where you could fix your own car. Now you can't do that any more with today's cars.

I used German mechanics until one ripped me off to the tune of $1200.00. It was the classic 'let's screw over the girl' thing. AAFES wasn't much better. (I'm digging through old stuff and finding things with AAFES price stickers on them. Brings back memories...)

Where in Germany are you? I was stationed at Sembach when I was there in '85-'89. I loved it.

We're stationed in Mannheim. The decision to boycott AAFES on this front is because they replaced my alternator literally seven days before we broke down and had my car at the shop for three weeks before they even tried to fix it.

We went to Schweinfurt today. We were there in '98-'01. We also were in Vilseck from '92-'96. We've loved it!!! Sometimes I feel more German than American.

ouch

Sorry about the car, sis! That kinda sucks. I hope it can be fixed up. Maybe you guys need to invest in a new Hoopty.

Say "Hi" to your bro for me! If you go back to Schweinfurt, check and see if our friends are still at the crafts studio!

Looking forward to your visit - only 11 more days!!! Anything special you want to do??

We did make it to Schweinfurt. I told everyone you said, "Hi!" and they said, "Hi, back!" Dave and Betty are still there. I traded emails with them and I'm thinking about going back to take some weaving classes. Some of the mechanics about getting started I've forgotten as the weaving shop I worked in was far too focused on specialization and actually made me *lose* skill knowledge. I'm so excited about coming to see you.
