got some more breastfeeding questions I was hoping to bother you with.

do you know if the milk can go bad in the breast? I had a clogged duct for a day and half. Its better now, but he pukes after every feeding on that side. the only time he hasn't puked was when he nursed for 7 minutes this am, on the other side and then slept for 3 hours.

he nursed for 10 min this afternoon on the good side, then 7 minutes on the previously clogged side and spit up about 10 minutes after I put him down.

When he threw up this morning there was a bit of yellow in his puke. Perhaps bile? I don't know. Any of this ever happen with your baby? How long did she sleep between feedings when she was just a few weeks old? sry to keep bothering but you're the only bfing friend I've got. the others used formula.

865-356-5695, wait til tomorrow afternoon when nick goes to work. He's got to rest before he goes to work and the phone will keep him up.

I am also calling the Dr. in the morning because he just threw up again even though it was 2 hours after he'd eaten.

Ok. One thing is that most babies spit up. And it can look like a *lot* but it really is just a teaspoon or so. Did his number of diapers drop? Because if it didn't, then don't worry too much about the throwing up, unless it's hitting the wall or something *grin*. The opening at the top of the esophagus in babies is very weak and so if they are laid down too soon after eating, they can spit up. Also, gas can make them spit up.

Breast milk cannot go bad in the breast. You don't make milk that just sits there. Basically, breasts work on supply and demand. You make the milk as he sucks to drink it. This is why if you drink one drink of alcohol and wait an hour and a half to breastfeed, you are fine. Because the milk is made when it is requested, it doesn't sit.

Sylvia used to eat every three hours or so. She would eat more often at night sometimes because she got distracted during the day. We co-sleep, so she can eat really easily. She did have a big thing with spitting up when she was younger and she just outgrew it in the last two months or so. The muscle at the top of the esophagus gets stronger then. Try keeping him upright for half an hour or so before putting him down after eating.

Also, a lot of babies get fussy and gassy because of milk products. If he keeps spitting up, try cutting down on the milk and soft cheese (think cream cheese or ricotta) you eat. I can only drink about one glass of milk in a week. If I drink organic milk, it helps too. Cheese and yogurt isn't such an issue with us. Basically, the protein from the cow's milk can be passed through your milk and babies don't have fully developed intestines until about six months old. So that protein can be passed into their system directly without proper digestion and can cause some of the issues you are talking about.

Damn! I pretty much live off cheese and milk. Seriously, I've been drinking about a gallon of milk every 3 days or so. Son of a bitch! That may help though, thanks!
