Anyone have a great car that's three years old or newer that they love? *sighs* Yeah. So I took Car to the mechanic yesterday to get her wheel bearings and tie rods changed. I had them do the 17 point check thing and had them take a look at the clutch cable as the gears were sticking a little bit as I changed gears. I got a call today telling that there's a problem with the drive shaft. The woman on the phone didn't know more than "It's the drive shaft and it can't be driven." *sighs* Yeah. The manager is supposed to call me back in the next half hour or tomorrow to tell me more. Just when we were really starting to get ahead financially. I'm kinda bummed too because I just put the 5K we had in savings into CDs and there's *no* way we can get them back without paying fees. I think we're going to have to buy a new car. I've been thinking about what we need. Here's the list so if anyone has suggestions, we'd appreciate it.

  • Sedan-type car; No SUVs
  • Gas mileage in the mid-20s but higher is better
  • Comfortable backseat
  • Under 25K

Yeah. *smiles* I know it is a lot to try and look for, but you can't get what you want if you aren't willing to ask for it right?

Actually, shouldn't be too hard to find a good car with those specs. "Comfortable back seat" being the most subjective, and only you will be able to decide that.

We bought our Dodge Neon from the new car sales in Wurzberg, and you really will have to buy from the American dealer unless you want to pay out the butt to have mods made in order to bring the car back to the US.

Unfortunately, Dodge doesn't make a Neon anymore, but is was/is a GREAT car, so ask the dealer which car replaced it. Looking at the Dodge website it looks like the Caliber and the Avenger both fall into your spec range. Of course, check Consumer Reports to see if they really live up to their claims!

That's my recommendation. Our Dodge hasn't let us down and it handled great on the autobahn (bonus!)

Love ya.

My mom drives a chevy cobalt and loves it. I enjoy driving it as well. Its leased though so I don't know the actual cost, just that her payment is $220 or so a month. The car gets 30mpg and is awesome. Actually hoping she buys the thing and gives it to me, mwahaha.

Also, if you can get beyond the ugliness of them... the PT Cruisers get almost 30mpg and are around 10-12k right now... but they're sooo ugly ;p
