Today
elvnsword and I got paid!! That may not sound all exciting but with him being in Iraq we make almost $1000 more a month than normal. And I started a new project to meticulously keep track of the money that we have coming in and going out. It's part of my plan to help myself not freak out if
elvnsword decides not to re-enlist. See, the plan goes that he and I save a couple of thousand dollars to use as transition money. And if he does decide to re-enlist, then we have a couple thousand dollars to go towards our eventual home downpayment. Plus we are using some of the extra money to pay off our consumer debt. Unfortunately, I think
elvnsword and I are going to have to buy a newer car once we get back to the states in '09. The thing is that Car has a problem with wheel bearings going out and clutch cables. So in the long term, we really need to trade her in. I looked at the Kelly Blue Book, and she's worth about 2K as a trade in and if we get a two hundred dollar touch up paint job, she'll be worth more. So that's some stuff for us to think about.
Mom and I re-joined the website that emails out dinner menus. That seemed like a good solution to the problem where we are not feeling like cooking for ourselves. And it makes it easier for us to buy what's on the grocery list and keep our costs down. We're experimenting this month with trying to buy our groceries on the economy rather than at the commissary and seeing how expensive that is. I think we're probably going to have to find a balance, but we're definitely going to be buying our veggies and fruit at the Farmer's Market. I'm thinking about finding a local butcher too.
