I went to the Roots & Heritage Festival in Lexington. I bought my first djembe although I very much think that someday I will special order one. I plays beautifully and I spent a good bit of Saturday evening playing it.

I went to see an ex early Sunday morning (i.e. he called and woke me up at 5am...). He was saying lots of the things he always used to say when he was drunk and he never really means any of them. His fiancee came downstairs while we were talking and left the house though. I hope that works out for him but I was pretty clear in my lack of interest. I spent the rest of the day hanging out with someone else from the past. I got home at about 4pm and crashed until 6:30pm. [livejournal.com profile] draloreshimare and I ordered pizza.

I have a meeting with Jan (my boss from the summer) today at 11am to go make an abstract for my talk at the robotics convention at Miami University. I'm a little nervous about that. I'm just afraid that I'll make an idiot of myself in front of the group. I can see lots of practicing in my future.

I finished The Stranger this weekend. I'm going to turn it in and see about getting the next book I want to read. I'll have to check my list though and see what it is.

1) A djembe is a hand drum, right?

2) Someone called you at 5am? On a Sunday, no less? And you were still nice to him? Apparently, you're a gentler soul than me.

3) I still think it's very cool that you're giving a talk at the convention.

1) A djembe is most definitely a hand drum. They are traditionally from W. Africa I do believe. The drum I bought is from Senegal.

2) *chuckles* If I hadn't of gone to talk to him he would have kept trying to reach me whereas I've now nipped his interest in the bud.

3) Thanks. I'm super nervous but my boss assured me it will go fine. I started a new labor position with the CS department this year.

2) Someone calls me at 5am, they get more than a bud nipped. I am not a morning person. I have a rule: if it's important, I won't be mad for more than 5 minutes. But expect 5 minutes of earful-ness!

So this guy was after you to get back together with him?

3) I'm sure you'll do fine. If you want a test audience, I'd be happy to let you practice on me. I want to meet you, anyway!

So what's the new job?

2) Basically. Although he had a g/f upstairs and he's monogamous. It turned out with me refusing his awkward drunken advances and leaving fairly quickly. *rolls her eyes* As if I would be interested in him drunk when we broke up because he's an alcoholic.

3) [livejournal.com profile] draloreshimare and I were discussing the end of September as a possible meeting date as we both get paid around that time. The new job is technically, TA for the CS department. But really I'm going to be working on the papers from the research we did this last summer and trying to get published.

2) Hitting on a woman while my girlfriend is upstairs doesn't fit my definition of monogamy. But, you know, it's not like I read the dictionary as a small child.....

3) Cool. End of Sept or the beginning of Oct would be good. I'm gonna be pretty busy until then, anyway. And it sounds like you're the very definition of a research assistant, although that probably isn't an approved position, which is why you're listed as a TA. Just guessing.

Just to pitch in on this conversation, I'm going to be gone the first weekend of October. Whoo. Doll meet. Socialization! *amused*

you know, unfriending me without telling me was hideously rude. In fact it seems very hypocritical of all you appeared to stand for. *shrug* people are just like that I guess. Shame, I actually trusted you.

*rolls her eyes* Because of course the highest definition of friendship is some bit in a database in California...

Gee, 'cause unfriending someone is the worst move anyone can make against someone they know IRL. :P
