Dear Sir:

I have been a very devoted Obama supporter for some time now. When I was in college, I remember how moving your speech at the Democratic National Convention was and how it inspired me to look into you as a person and as a lawmaker. I have read your book The Audacity of Hope and I have felt very secure in my decision to vote for you.

However, your vote on the FISA has disturbed me. It has disturbed me greatly and it has done more than that. It has shaken my faith in you as a leader. I, and I'm sure many others, would like an explanation. I am unsure what could have motivated you to authorize a continued invasion of the privacy of Americans. Tell me that we are not trading freedoms for illusions of security. It is with a heavy heart that I begin to consider third party candidates. I have no interest in voting for John McCain, but I do not feel safe in voting for a candidate I feel has betrayed his base. We do not follow you because you are not McCain; we follow you because we hope in our heart of hearts that you are not like every other candidate we have voted for in our adult lives. We sincerely hope that you have our interests at heart.

So please, I ask of you as a concerned citizen, explain your vote.

Thank you.
Bridgette Bynum
