Anyone who knows me knows that I've never really been all that into physical fitness before. But I started to look at things with some perspective. I am unhealthy. My blood pressure is pretty good, but overall, I have a hard time sustaining aerobic activities. That says to me that if I continue on the path I'm on, my mobility and overall life quality is going to continue to decline and when I hit my 40s I'm going to be miserable with my physical self. I don't want that to happen. I try to choose healthy foods to eat so I was largely on the right track there; I just had almost no physical activity in my daily life. Small amounts of walking (1-3 miles) at random times can't really combat the effects of a mostly sedentary lifestyle.
I've started going to the gym largely because I don't want to have a heartattack in my 40s and I want to be around for a while. I want to have kids and raise them. It's so much easier when you can physically keep up with toddlers (or at least realistically attempt it). Add to that the fact that I am not completely happy with my body. I don't want to be super skinny, as that would look ridiculous on my body frame, but I would like it to be easier to find clothes in my size. Currently, there are no stores here that sell *anything* in my size. Imagine a world where a size 20 is the largest size. And it's not all about how I look. I want to go up the stairs to my second floor apartment without huffing and wheezing when I get there. I want to be healthier and looking better is just the bonus.
