And so there has only been one plant that I've managed to grow indoors. That would be our brave Jasmine that the cats do not like to eat. Well, I had noticed that the frame it was growing on was a bit unsatisfactory. In fact, It was really only this one little metal piece bent over that multiple vines had been wrapped around. In the course of reading the books that Black got me on gardening, I found some instructions on how to make a trellis. Armed with this knowledge, bamboo sticks, string and wire cutters, I managed to make a nice trellis that gives the Jasmine tons of room for growth as compared to where it was. I also did some more breaking down of the transplanted soil, pulling some of the roots out some more. I added more soil and tamped it down a bit. The Jasmine is now preening in the kitchen window and I'm beginning to feel like maybe I can do this whole growing things bit. I'm thinking about buying a much larger pot, putting in a trellis and seeing if I can grow some nice cucumbers. They happen to be one of my favorite veggies. The only problem is the trip I have this summer. I suppose I can just ask the girl who is going to feed the cats to water them. I'll have to think on it some. I had wanted to definitely try tomatoes this year too. They are one of the simpler veggies for me to grow. I'll just have to see what I can get together.
Oh! I forgot to write about this. On Saturday Black and I went back by the Bauhaus. I have been wanting to start some sort of herb garden. Well, they have these little kits to start the plants in and then you can transfer them to bigger pots when they get big enough. So we got one and the seeds. The seeds have been in the soil since Saturday but there is not yet any visible reaction. I have been sure to keep the soil slightly damp/moist to encourage germination. The herbs currently being anticipated are Dill, Sweet Basil, German Winter Thyme, Curled Parsley Moss and Lemon Balm. I may email some of the people I know here and see if any of them want seeds and the like.
And the Pansy I put outside has blossomed beautifully. It has four or so blooms on it and is growing like a fiend. The other plants aren't doing as well and I'm debating over what kinds of plants to replace them with. I like flowers but I feel a bit silly just growing flowers when I could be growing some of my own food. I've been thinking about it a lot and debating on how involved to get. But the flowers are cheerful and make the scenery on the balcony pretty. The bench out there has become one of my favorite places to sit, despite the fact that it seriously needs a pad to go on the seat.
