My dad and I went out on the bike tonight. We rode roughly 70 miles and went out to the Wichita Wilderness Animal Reserve.

First I want to say what a wonderful experience I find riding on a motorcycle to be. I've never driven one but I've ridden passenger on two now and I have to say that it's an experience that really touches me. The first time I did it I actually rode with third degree burns on my leg from the muffler I wanted to ride the bike so bad. While no less spiritual, I have to say that this trip had no mishaps and I was grateful for that.

There's a sense of spirituality that comes with riding motorcycles to me. I think it must be a feeling very close to flying. The only thing between you and the rest of the world is a helmet. You feel the air around you pull at your clothes and the views are magnificent. There's this sense of relaxation and calmness that washes over me when I'm in that space and the whole world is better. It's also very freeing. I may have to acquire a motorcycle at a further point in my life.

The other deep and spiritual experience for the evening was that I saw my first buffalo. Not only did I see one buffalo, but I saw a whole herd. I can't tell you how touched I was to see this herd that was on both sides of the road. They seemed so wise and thoughtful. None of them skittered away from the bike like the longhorns had. They had these deep liquid eyes. The experience made me cry. It was just so beautiful. There was almost a sense of bittersweetness as I could imagine what this area must have once looked like with buffalo spread out across the plains. It was still one of the deeper experiences of my life.

I'm glad you had some good experiences.

My only problem with motorcycles (and cars) is that they don't directly use my own power. They're not remotely like bicycles, and I find the fact that I'm not using myself to power them disturbing, even scary.
