Worm Bin

So this last weekend the MIL and I built our first worm bin. It's still pretty warm here in Georgia, so we don't have to worry so much about the worms freezing just yet. We took a footlocker on wheels and drilled holes in the bottom and sides for draining and air. Then we took two bricks we already had and bought two oven liner aluminum pans for $1.50. We set the bricks up on the the two pans that we put side by side. Then we put the footlocker on top of the bricks. I had some Yesterday's News cat litter that the cats had refused to use, so I soaked it in water until it got soft. That went in the bottom of the bin with some mulched leaves from the yard. I sprinkled some clean sand from the beach here at the lake. Then we introduced some red worms we got from the local bait and tackle shop. We started putting our waste out there and I've already seen a little progress. I think we may need to buy a few more buckets of worms though. So far, it's looking pretty good.
